Philippe Burns

Marketing Lead at Neo Financial

I have extensive experience in building and scaling B2B and B2C companies from the ground to acquisition, I began my career on the Operations team at SkipTheDishes during its infancy and through its growth from 30 to 1,500 employees, and it’s acquisition by JustEat for $200M. After experiencing the fast growth of a scaling startup, I moved to Montreal to study Sociology and Entrepreneurship at McGill University.

After graduating, I joined Neo Financial right after their Series A and have helped scale the company from 3,000 customers to now over 1M accounts created, and a Series C at a $1B valuation. In this time, I helped build the customer experience team from 3 people to 100 and supported the launch of the HBC credit card to over 10M customers. Now, I’m growing the Talent Marketing team and have created and delivered strategy to that resulted in the hiring of 120 devs in 8 months.

My honours thesis titled “Racial stereotyping of Indigenous people in the Canadian media: A comparative analysis of two water pollution incidents” was published in the May 2021 issue of the Canadian Review of Sociology. The paper also also won ‘Most Outstanding Paper in a Sociology Course’ at McGill (2018).
